There are many choice to be made when planning a wedding, but few are as creative and beautiful as designing your bridal flowers. Once a venue is chosen and a color palette selected, it’s time to consider the florals. Many brides come to the process with a “must have” flower in mind – and very often, that flower is the orchid. This month we honor this most sophisticated and luxurious bloom, and offer some inspiration in orchid wedding design.
We find that most often, the cymbidium is the orchid variety of choice for many brides. This spectacular flower, like all orchids, is a perfect bilateral symmetric – which means it be divided into two identical parts. The ideal symmetry of the flower – as well as the bright colors exhibited in their petals – makes working with them an exercise in artistry. The white cymbidium, exceptionally popular in weddings, most often exhibit a center of yellow, pink and magenta. This gives the large blooms just the right touch of color in a primarily white bouquet.
Orchid wedding design is a wide open opportunity. Many brides choose to have an all-orchid bridal bouquet, while using the flower to play a supporting role in other arrangements. For instance, perhaps the bridesmaid bouquets are comprised of the orchid surrounded by cream color roses; or the centerpieces may feature one single orchid at the center, surrounded by lush and romantic blooms such as peonies and hydrangea. Your design will depend on both your vision and your budget.
